The three speeds
| Withdrawal | Wait | With strict settings |
|---|---|---|
| ETH, USDC or cbBTC to an address you've paid, within today's daily amount | None: it goes at once | 72 hours |
| To a new address, above the daily amount, or another token | 24 hours | 72 hours |
| More than half of an asset, counted with what's pending and what left in the last 3 days | 72 hours | 7 days |
Known addresses
An address becomes known only after a withdrawal to it has waited and completed, or when it is one of your homes. Receiving money from an address never makes it known, so a look-alike address planted in your history by a scammer stays new. You can forget a known address at any time.
The daily amount
Up to $1,000 a day can go at once, and never more than 10% of your savings. Lowering it is immediate; raising it waits 24 hours, and a lock cancels a pending raise. Only ETH, USDC and cbBTC can go at once; other tokens always wait.
The half rule
More than half of an asset, counted together with anything pending and anything that left in the last three days, waits 72 hours. Splitting a large withdrawal into small ones buys nothing, because each one counts the others.
- Two withdrawals of 49%: the second waits 72 hours.
- Three of 33%: the second already waits 72 hours.
- 49% today and 49% tomorrow: the second still waits, because the first left within three days.
During a wait
- Every phone and your email are told at once. With Protect, you also get an SMS and your trusted contact is told.
- Any of your phones cancels the withdrawal, as often as you need.
- With Protect, transfers to known scam addresses are cancelled automatically.
- When the wait ends, the withdrawal completes exactly as you approved it, within seven days.
When prices are stale
Instant withdrawals rely on prices. If the price feed is more than an hour old, or Base's sequencer is down or has only just come back, instant withdrawals stop and every withdrawal counts as crossing the half rule until things are back to normal.
Questions
Can I make the waits shorter?
No. Strict settings can make them longer, never shorter. To move money quickly, use the daily amount for small transfers to addresses you have paid before.
Why did a small withdrawal wait?
It went to an address you haven't paid through a wait before, it was a token other than ETH, USDC or cbBTC, it went over your daily amount, or prices were stale at the time.
