Glossary
The words we use, in plain English.
Every term Fortcore uses on this site and in the app, with a link to the page that explains it in full.
B
- Base
- The Ethereum network, built by Coinbase, where your savings live. Network fees there are cents, and Fortcore pays them for you.
C
- Close to my exchange
- A return you start from a phone that has been active for 7 days. Everything goes home in 72 hours, and only that phone can stop it.More
D
- Daily amount
- What can leave at once in a day to addresses you have paid before: $1,000 by default, and never more than 10% of your savings.More
E
- Exit kit
- Open tools that do one thing, send everything home, from the app, the web or the command line, with no Fortcore server needed.More
F
- FortCard
- Fortcore's NFC card, bought once for $59. It co-signs large withdrawals, locks your vault from any NFC phone and lets a new phone send in 12 hours instead of 48.More
G
- Guardian
- Fortcore's role on your vault with Protect or Private. Within fixed limits it can lock your vault, cancel withdrawals and start a return home, but it never signs a transfer.More
H
- Half rule
- More than half of an asset, counted together with what is pending and what left in the last three days, waits 72 hours. Splitting it up buys nothing.More
- Home
- The account your savings go back to when something goes wrong: normally your exchange's Base deposit address, with an optional second one such as a hardware wallet.More
I
- Inactivity return
- If your phone shows no activity for the period you choose, 12 months by default, a 30-day return sends your savings home. Any activity cancels it.More
- Interceptor
- Fortcore's screening role with Protect. It cancels transfers to flagged addresses and marks tainted deposits, and it can't move money.More
K
L
- Lock
- Stops all withdrawals and cancels pending ones until a phone unlocks the vault and 24 hours pass. A lock ends by itself after 14 days unless it is renewed, at most twice.More
M
- Marked amount
- Money from a flagged deposit, marked with Protect. It never leaves at once and never goes to an exchange without your choice.More
P
- Phone key
- The key in your phone's secure chip that opens only with your enrolled face or fingerprint. It is the only key that can send money.More
R
- Restore key
- A passkey in your iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager. It can only add a phone, which waits 48 hours, or send everything home, which waits 7 days.More
S
- Safe
- The smart-account contracts that hold your savings, widely used by funds and organisations. Fortcore seals yours so only its own contract can move money.More
- Seed phrase
- The 12 or 24 words most wallets use as a backup of their key. Fortcore doesn't use one.
- Self-custody
- Holding crypto at an address only your own keys control, rather than on an exchange that holds it for you.
- Send everything home
- A return you start with your cloud passkey from any device. Everything goes home in 7 days, and only a phone that was already active for 7 days when it started can stop it.More
- Strict settings
- Free, optional rules that make your vault slower and harder to move. They take effect at once and can be turned off only after 7 days.More
T
- Tainted deposit
- Money sent to your vault from a sanctioned, hacked, draining or mixing source. Anyone can send it; Fortcore warns you, and with Protect marks it.More
- Threat network
- The addresses Fortcore customers have confirmed as scams. The app warns you about them before you sign, and with Protect they are cancelled during a wait.More
- Trusted contact
- Someone you choose, with Protect or Private, who gets your alerts and can lock your vault or cancel a withdrawal, but never unlock, withdraw or change settings.More
W
- Wind-down
- What happens if Fortcore shuts down: a public 30-day notice, then every vault's 90-day return to its verified home, carried out by an independent operator.More
